Back in Munich, I took a few days to get the laundry done and the kids settled back to school and then decided it was high time to enjoy the gorgeous weather we were having because, as I know from experience, it won't last much longer. The first adventure, Nymphenburg Palace. I had toured the inside once before (post here) but I had never seen the famous gardens and outbuildings. I wrangled my friend M and off we went to take our 10,000 steps for the day. (Note: we ended up taking the 10,000 by 11 am and continued on until we almost hit 20,000 before getting lunch).
The grounds of Nymphenburg are beautiful. And the outbuildings, used for various uses by the royal family were just as stunning. Below, a quick tour...
The swans take flight out front.
The back view of the palace.
I somehow didn't take a picture of the actual building itself but I was impressed with the "bathtub" in this area of relaxation. In the picture on the left, you can see a table and seats at the front of the bath and at the right you can see the taps that turned the water on and filled the "tub". This was a very large swimming pool for even today's standards.
The far end of the Palace Gardens.
And when I say far end, I mean far. That tiny speck of a house at the top of the picture is the Palace from the first picture.
This modest outbuilding was for the Princesses and Queen to rest in if they had been out walking in the gardens for a long time.
It had beds for sleeping and tables for playing games.
This gothic looking building was our favorite though. The inside was completely a surprise with everything made from shells!
Back at the Palace, we checked out the randomly placed gold busts of Ludwig II (it was his birthday month). Random and odd.
