As we left the downtown port area, we climbed up, up, up to what is a ski resort in the winter and the perfect zip lining spot in the summer. We wound up in the middle of the largest temperate rainforest in the world - Tongass. Which, as it happens, is also the largest National Forest in the World with 17 million acres of land and 128 glaciers. After weighing in (yep, had to make sure that we all hit min or max limits), we were suited up and taken to the testing run to review the rules and take an easy route as a refresher if we wanted.
Learning a bit as we awaited our turn at the first zip line.
Our "catcher" was on the other side and ready for us.
Stinkerbell went first!
And the rest of us followed quickly behind...
We did a few more and then all decided to go backwards...
We took a break for some hot tea and then went right back to it...
To get to the final and longest zip we had to cross a haging bridge. It was harder to keep your balance than it looks!
Our final platform and the tree known as Grandpa!
Final shot at the perfect zipline pose. I think we all nailed it.
And then a surprise - they had ax throwing targets set up for us to try out. I was a bit afraid we might come home a few limbs short but it was really just a lot of laughs!
Done with our adventure we made it back into Juneau's downtown in one piece and just in time for lunch. We did some sightseeing (and bear sitting)...
And then popped into the local saloon (sawdust floor cover and all) for a beer and a bite.
Perfect picture (and even got the Packers into it!)
The rest of the afternoon preceeded like all previous afternoons - pool time for the kids, treadmill time for me, predinner drinks time, dinner, kids in kids club and adults upstairs for their after dinner shot...
I couldn't even begin to guess what this shot was. Might have been a duck fart, might have been the one that was chunky in the middle (yuck...)
And another gorgeous sunset off the boat...
