Our trip to Breckenridge can be split into Before California and After California. This is the post on what we did before took a vacation from our vacation.
The first thing I did when planning our trip to Colorado was make sure that the girls would not be bored. Because we were already in the field when we left the US (meaning not near family and long term friends) we don't have any reason to go back and visit for extended periods of time. So, unlike many expats that go "home" for the summer we simply travel to wherever Nana and Grampa happen to be living at the time. And yes, this has changed a few times over our years of international living. It is a strange situation that we don't have a home to return for Home Leave. It isn't really a problem as we love vising my parents and the places they live are incredible but it does mean that the girls have no one to play with other than me, Nana and Grampa and that only works for so long.
Since we were going to be staying mostly in one place this summer, I signed them up for a week long camp where they could interact with other kids their age and hopefully make some friends that they could visit next time we were in town. It made for a very pleasant week for them and left me some free time to do the important things, like banking and setting up doctors appointments. (I said important, not fun). That week at camp was a blast for them - it's theme was water and included a dog wash that we took Lucy to - but that wasn't the only fun we had that week...See for yourself.
Getting washed at camp.
Hula hoop play!
Hiking with Nana and Grampa by the house...
Swinging in the backyard (this one made the paper)
Hot tubbing - as often as they could.
Crepes from the cart.
Shucking corn. (Gotta teach 'em right)
Making slime!
And then we were off to California - posts
here and
here...But never fear, we would be back to finish up our last 3 weeks in Breck in style.
