An Epic Discovery

One of the girls favorite things to do while we are in Breckenridge is to visit the Epic Discovery park on the mountain.  We try to go once a year and spend the whole day riding the coasters, jumping on the trampolines, finding our way through the human maze and panning for gold.  This year we were lucky enough to have B and his cousins join us for the day.  And, for the first time, Stinkerbell was tall enough to ride the zip line!

What fun we had spending a day outdoors and on the mountain though nobody indulged me by screaming as they rode the zip line (or the coasters).  Oh well, maybe next year.

Breckenridge - The Before

Our trip to Breckenridge can be split into Before California and After California.  This is the post on what we did before took a vacation from our vacation.

The first thing I did when planning our trip to Colorado was make sure that the girls would not be bored.  Because we were already in the field when we left the US (meaning not near family and long term friends) we don't have any reason to go back and visit for extended periods of time.  So, unlike many expats that go "home" for the summer we simply travel to wherever Nana and Grampa happen to be living at the time.  And yes, this has changed a few times over our years of international living.   It is a strange situation that we don't have a home to return for Home Leave.  It isn't really a problem as we love vising my parents and the places they live are incredible  but it does mean that the girls have no one to play with other than me, Nana and Grampa and that only works for so long.

Since we were going to be staying mostly in one place this summer, I signed them up for a week long camp where they could interact with other kids their age and hopefully make some friends that they could visit next time we were in town.  It made for a very pleasant week for them and left me some free time to do the important things, like banking and setting up doctors appointments. (I said important, not fun).  That week at camp was a blast for them - it's theme was water and included a dog wash that we took Lucy to - but that wasn't the only fun we had that week...See for yourself.

 Getting washed at camp.

 Hula hoop play!

Hiking with Nana and Grampa by the house...

Swinging in the backyard (this one made the paper)

Hot tubbing - as often as they could.

   Crepes from the cart.

Shucking corn. (Gotta teach 'em right)

 Making slime!

And then we were off to California - posts here and here...But never fear, we would be back to finish up our last 3 weeks in Breck in style.

Left Coast Living

Our week in California flew by in a blur.  It was 6 days of friends, fun, and sun.  We played and we laughed and we talked until we just couldn't anymore.  We pampered ourselves and indulged ourselves and just generally had a great time.  It was all too short.  And the times are too far in between.  But with all that we crammed into our stay, I think we have enough great memories to last us until the next time.

Neighborhood antics...

Beach day!

Pedis!

Haircuts!

Slushies at the Beach Club!

A fabulous gig for Shannon Rae and 100 Proof!  Check them out!

Their favorite way to end the day...

First trip to lunch at the American Girls Store.  Sooooo excited.

And to cap it all off, the captain invited the girls to sit in the cockpit as we headed back home!
